In the time that I have spent teaching in Taiwan, I have had the opportunity to teach at many schools using various methods. I have found the Happy Marian system and curriculum to be the best by far, for both teachers and students.

At Happy Marian we have fewer classes that teach only English. Instead we have fun classes like science, games, cooking, housework and craft, all of which are taught in English. The kids, therefore, learn 2 things at the same time. The children are taught from an early age that learning a new language is not boring because they have so much fun while speaking English.

The best thing about teaching at Happy Marian is all the fun we have! One of the main objectives of the Happy Marian course is to have fun! And we do! We have so much fun that the kids don’t even realize that they are being introduced to challenging new concepts. Not only are they mastering the concepts but putting them into practice every day.

Another great aspect of the teaching method encouraged by Happy Marian is that teachers don’t just stand in front of the class and lecture. We get the kids to play an active role in class, using the relevant materials. For example, if we are talking about food we will have real food in the class to discuss, touch and taste. By using all the senses, the children have a better understanding of the lessons and remember a great deal more.
