We should make the class atmosphere very fun and friendly for the young children and always welcome them with big smiles in the morning. We should use our body language a lot and face expressions to help children understand what we are learning. Preparing for your class the day before so that you know what you will be doing. It is A LOT EASIER FOR YOU IF YOU ARE PREPARED.

When teaching very young children, we must remember how scary it must be for them in a new place. And as a parent myself I now know how scary it is for the parents, too. It is very important to make our school a fun and friendly and safe place for the young children.

I would like to share some of the things that have helped me teaching young children.

First of all, I believe that we should make the class atmosphere very fun and friendly for the young children and always welcome them with big smiles in the morning. This is very important as the young J1 children may be very sad in the morning and want to stay with their parents. I always try to start the class with something fun that the children will want to participate in. If it’s fun, they will learn.

Also for J1 children, it is a good idea to follow a routine in the morning for going to the bathroom or lining up together or any class activity that we do every day. We should always do it the same way each day so that the young children know what they should be doing. This will give them a little more confidence in themselves because they are not confused. They feel strong and happy because they know what to do. They will learn a little more each day. No pressure!

It is also very important to repeat and review the lesson that we have learnt because the young children need to hear new things more than once. Review the sentences or new words as many times as you can and also ask the children to use the new words a lot. Young children do learn very fast but they need to hear it a few times. They need to use it a few times. And they will be able to use their new English well.

I am a very funny and loud and a little crazy in class and I clown around a lot in class. I like to be silly and fun when talking to the children. It is good for the teacher to get on their level of and be a little silly with the children. I don’t let them get too crazy or loud, but I let them feel that I am fun. I also use my body language a lot and face expressions to help them understand what we are learning. Acting like a policeman or fireman will help them understand and also give them a chance to stand up and act as a fireman as well. Happy Marian has a lot of cool costumes and props that we can use to help show and tell the children.

Finally, I like to prepare for my class the day before so that I know what I will be doing. I check if there is anything I need to bring and get ready for the next day. It is A LOT EASIER FOR ME IF I AM PREPARED.
