Goals for a Classroom

Teaching young children can be an extremely fun and rewarding job. It can also be difficult and frustrating at times. In my experience, the classroom atmosphere depends greatly on the teacher’s organization, attitude and ability to relate to the children in a meaningful way. A well organized and motivated teacher should be able to capture the attention of any child. By being prepared, a teacher can be more flexible and creative with how to best engage their class. Being prepared for class is often the difference between a teacher who is just showing up for work and a teacher who really wants to make an impact. By having lesson plans prepared and gone over, the teacher will be able to concentrate on assisting the children. An unprepared teacher will waste time trying to figure out how to convey the information. This deprives the class of valuable time that could have been spent more affectively. A little preparation before class will also make the time go faster. The better organized a lesson, the easier it is to get through to each individual child. Another aspect of teaching that is extremely important is attitude. It is easy for the children and teachers to slip into routines. It is also easy to lose patience with children who often misbehave. It’s important to keep things positive always. Teachers have good days and bad, but the whole feel of a class depends on what kind of feedback the teachers give the children. Positive reinforcement helps keep spirits up. This again will make the class time more fun. It will also make it easier for everyone to communicate with each other. Having an organized and positive classroom will help teachers to also be more flexible and creative. If a lesson is well planned, then it is much easier to see what is working and what isn’t. A prepared teacher will recognize how to alter a lesson to adapt it to that particular class. It is also easier to turn a lesson into something fun that the children will enjoy and remember. Creativity and flexibility make lessons come to life. The more ready a teacher is, the more opportunity there will be to try new things. This will keep things interesting and not just for the children but the teachers as well.
